    • Hey, even in NTU PRC's attitudes are also just as shitty. Every time there's free buffet after some recruitment talk by some company, All of a sudden a bunch of PRCs will flock to the place and eat the free food. They cut queues and do shit stuff like that as well. At least the worst ugly singaporeans will still at least attend the talk even if they ultimately have no interest in joining the company.

PRCs always like to pot call the kettle black. Honestly most of the time, I always emphasise that I am Singaporean and just because I am chinese, do not associate me with anything from PRC.

I am not so sure about PRCs speaking bad about us behind our backs but I won't be surprised if they actually do so, seeing that even their best brains have so little class. Really, I feel most/all of them speak english in such a fake, indecipherable accent that is neither amusing nor comprehensible.

    • Don't care about chain of command. I remember last time my IC, 2WO rank, told me that sometimes in SAF, to get things done, you must speak with the people who CAN get things done. Speaking to the lower ranked people is merely a waste of time. By the time things are done, the Iraq US war over liao.

Apparently, the SSG is probably someone who just doesn't want too much trouble, and after all, is only a SSG. If possible, speak to a commissioned officer or something like that. Or as suggested, go to MP if things still do not improve.

Unfortunately, it seems that your friend's unit might be siding with the DXO. After all, DXO cannot issue extras but can only recommend. Ok, perhaps they pity him coz of his wife's death but if nothing is done by your friend to highlight his plight, the situation will get worse. Apparently, the DXO is not dealing with his wife's death very well and may need counselling. Highlight it to your unit S1, CO or whatever. It would be helping the DXO also.

I've never seen him like this before and it's really freaking me out. The thing is he's talked to the people in charge in the camp, I'm not very sure of the ranks =S but they all don't want to seem to grant him 8-5. They don't even seem to be sympathetic at all.

I guess the reason why he's like this is because he's been wanting stay out so that he can study. If he doesn't, he would have to spend extra tens of thousands of $$ just to continue his studies when he goes overseas.

It's really driving him up the wall and I can't even talk to him properly anymore. His loss of moods for anything.. constant guilt..

I would want him to go seek help and maybe from there he can get 8-5, but will it work? And would it be in the record for his future?

Oh, and he also has a knee problem. Seen specialist, letter given to MO, etc. Everything was still rejected.

I know some of you may say he should suck it up because most guys have to go through the same thing, but some people just can't. Its affected his whole mind and well being and I'm really concerned.

Pls reply! Opinions and comments and help much appreciated. Thanks! :)

I guess many people have already said your bf should wake up and not take 8-5 as an entitlement etc so I won't go on further on these issues.

Actually, I want to ask about his knee problem? Is it a crucuate ligament tear? That is a confirm downgrade to c2l2 at least, coz thats my pes status. If it is really a serious knee problem, he'll have to go on medical board to get downgraded. He'll have to "pester" his camp MO with all the necessary documentation from specialist etc, explicitly stating a recommendation to downgrade. The camp MO, after all, in the medical field, is just a GP. Rejecting the specialist recommendation without a medical board is like him questioning the abilities of  the specialist and the MO is nowhere near qualified to do so. Another scenario could be those imbeciles at the medical centre misplaced my request for medical board review, causing nothing to happen. Happened to me last time, so had to submit again.

Another issue I want to bring up is the mentality of the unit, especially his closest friends. I have a friend in Hendon last time, pes c1, medic at medical centre only, but his fellow medics are siao one, lunchtime also go practice IPPT, do chin ups, 2.4 etc. In my unit, we sleep after eating lunch until its 1pm. So if his unit people think he is chao keng, they may invariably start to criticise him and this might be causing his depression. However, if your bf is really not chao keng-ing, then he should continue to try to get downgraded , it will ultimately be for his own good. But if he's chao keng-ing, then maybe he should think twice of whether he should grit it out or still try to chao keng further.

Leeds United part II happening soon?

And, lets see if those so-called Chelsea fans will still stand by the club once Roman decides he's had enough...

      Have a good day!!

Actually, if it is not too inconvenient, maybe you all go to the Miss Clarity Cafe at Upper Thomson instead I think might be better. After all, that place is more laidback and would probably be more relaxing to dine in.

The maid lowered her head and humbly picked them up again and  walked a few metres behind that old woman. I strongly feel that one should treat another with respect regardless of nationality, status etc. If the maid is so-called "stupid" or does something wrong, why can't we tell them nicely? Why must some of us behave in such a babaric manner? I've heard of employers complaining the maid's stupid and so on. To put in more crudely, if the maid is not "stupid" or clever enough, would she still be working as a maid? If they are not good enough for them; very simple, don't employ any maids la!

I wonder if this is the reflection of typical type of treatment and behaviours local employers treat their maids? The maids got to abandon their families and go overseas to help support their families with some at young age of 20++ where most of our locals are still studying and need not worry on financial or other aspects of life. When these maids arrive in a foreign land, they face the uncertainty of how their future employers are going to treat them, got to stay with the employers, work long hours, unable to resign when they cannot tahan their employers, got despised by some people, etc etc. Imagine the tremendous stress they are facing! No wonder i read of maids killing their employers and so on. I wonder if employers treat them humanely in the first place, would our newspapers would still be flooded with news of employers got murdered by maids and so forth? And for that miserable few hundred of dollars worth of salary, the maids got to work extra hard, denied leave and benefits that we ordinary citizens would normally get from our employers?

And when sporeans go abroad for study or work, i often hear people complaining of racial discrimination etc. But do we ask ourselves how some of us treat our foreign workers?

Actually, I understand and can see the logic and sense in most of your points, except the one I highlighted.

This point we actually have our govt to blame. It's actually not that many of us don't want to give maids leave. But if we give them leave, and they disappear, go out get pregnant etc, we have to pay $5000 to the govt coz our maid is supposed to be our responsibility. This is not a small sum and seriously, the more we let maids go out, the more they get influenced by other maids and shit may start happening. If not, I'm sure my folks wouldn't have any problems letting our maid go out every weekend.

I remember some human rights group have voiced out that we as employers do not give enough welfare to our maids. However, I personally feel they are barking up the wrong tree as they do not dare to bark up the right tree :)

    • Wah lau come on lah... Lose one match only kpkb. Seriously how long have you watched football? The better team on the day doesn't necessarily win.

Really if you want to say referee kelong then last time during chelsea's championship winning seasons "the great" John Terry dunno get away with nothing how many times by doubling up as a 2nd goalkeeper in the penalty box also kelong what. Only difference is that this time kelong it wasn't in favour of the team you support. Sometimes decisions go for you and sometimes against you. Besides, I feel chelsea over the past few seasons have, overall had more decisions go in their favour than otherwise.

Get over it, winning and losing is part and parcel of football. If you can't accept that then you are not a true fan and only support your team in good times, once they are not as good as now, you will just ditch them for the new flavour of the month.

like what someone else mentioned here, ambience counts if i'm eating at a resturant and since i specifically choose to eat there for the ambience and end up paying a higher price, i don't see why i should move off. it usually takes 15-30mins for a meal at hawker center but if i'm eating at a resturant i actually expect to go in and sit for at least up til an hour or even more since i'm there to enjoy myself with my friends.

I agree with you that the lady is at fault if it was a restaurant. But I guess that you did not read my original post clearly. I wouldn't personally walk to any particular table and tell them to move off in a restaurant like the lady. It would be quite class-less on my part as well. But I stated I might let the staff know that I feel some patrons are hogging the tables, in a polite manner of course.

Ultimately, it is up to them whether the staff want to politely ask the current patrons whether if they are willing to move off or not. And if the patrons refuse, then there's nothing I can do about it. But I would appreciate it if the staff explain it to me politely that after all, it is the right of the customers to sit there as long as they want.

    • I agree nobody is obliged to move off when dining at a restaurant but its more of a courtesy issue. Of course, if dining at a posh place like in a good hotel or something then I feel it is fine to take your time as after all, chances are patrons there are not just there for the food but the ambience as well. Moreover, one has to probably pay a King's ransom to dine at those places.

But in places like Mahattan or Dian Xiao Er etc where there always queues outside, does anyone really need to hog the table? I mean, what ambience is there in those places? Whats more, when fully crowded these places are really noisy and it would be difficult to sit back and chat as well.

Nowadays I listen more to power 98 coz I feel that their mix is broader. Got 80s and contemporary music. And sometimes to the Married Men on 91.3.

      I was quite... appalled ba.

Would you tell someone off for not leaving the restaurant fast enough after their dinner?

Actually the polite thing for you all to do would be to settle the bill and find somewhere less crowded to continue your conversation/ catching up. After all, it is just as impolite on your end to make others wait just to satisfy your own desires that can be satisfied at another, less crowded area. I have queued up before outside restaurants where some patrons, even after finishing their food long ago, continue to sit there and tcss for ages. It really gets frustrating.

What I might do is to ask the staff to talk to certain tables, perhaps even pin-pointing them to tables with patrons who are blatantly hogging their seats if possible. I will remind them repeatedly if nothing much is done on their part to ensure table hoggers are not "taken care of".

    • Personally I'm ok with sharing tables so long as they ask politely, just like many of you here.

But what about the point of chatting with your meal partner(s) and having a loss of privacy when eating coz share table with a stranger? Honestly, if there is a need for a stranger to share table with you, chances are the foodcourt/hawker centre is already very crowded. Chatting should be left till after meal when can walk to a more convenient, less crowded place. Chatting at the table without finishing your food asap is also quite inconsiderate during rush hours.
